Why The Lamborghini Urus Should Be Considered One Of The Coolest Cars Of All Time

If you glance through the list of Lamborghini cars to have ever been built, you will come across some super sports cars that were amazing, exotic, some terrible to drive, some outright insane, and a few built just to prove a point. The characteristic every single one of them has in common is that every Lamborghini in history is inevitably cool. The modern crop of Lamborghinis seems to be on another level. However, while most of the models in the Lamborghini range are some of the fastest jaw-dropping exotic supercars on the planet, we reckon the Urus SUV is one of the coolest cars of all time. We shall now explain why.

Is The Lamborghini Urus Really A Sheep In Wolf’s Clothing?

Lamborghini Urus Rear

We have heard the story countless times over the years that the Urus is based on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne. It has been made to look like a Lamborghini Aventador with four doors and rides much higher.

Sure, but the Cayenne was the first vehicle that put the “Sport” in Sports Utility Vehicle. The latest-generation model is one of the most capable SUVs on the market. The Aventador is such a beast of a supercar that has been around for over a decade. There have been countless special edition models that look madder than the last. The Aventador will always manage to turn heads where ever you go. Its sonorous naturally aspirated V12 engine started life making 700 horsepower and now makes nearly 800 buff horses. It is what every supercar is inspired by and aspires to look like.

The Urus marries the performance of the Cayenne and the looks of the Aventador. The Urus is essentially a Cayenne that likes to party a lot and in no world is that a bad thing. After all, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

The Might Of The Urus

Sure the Urus uses the same Volkswagen Group MLB Evo platform that is used in cars like the Volkswagen Tuareg, Audi Q7, Q8, Porsche Cayenne, and even the Bentley Bentayga. The platform was designed and developed by Audi to be versatile and over the years it has proven to be capable.

The Urus is powered by the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that is also designed by Audi. The same engine powers the RS6, RS7, and RSQ8 models and none of them can be classified as a slouch. It is even used in the Cayenne and Panamera by Porsche. However, the engine was further developed by Lamborghini to the point that they claim it is unrecognizable. The motor makes 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, figures that were announced in 2018. That is 50 horses more than what it makes in the Cayenne Turbo GT and 100 ponies more than the Audi RSQ8 in 2022.

The Urus can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and 0–124 mph in 12.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 190 mph making it one of the fastest production SUVs in the world. Being an SUV with all-wheel-drive, this Lamborghini will also be quite comfortable driving off-road.

The Mesmerizing Looks Of The Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini Urus Interior Design

The original Cayenne was SUV that was made to look like a 911. Lamborghini designer’s mood boards naturally featured the Huracan and Aventador when designing the Urus.

For its first SUV, Lamborghini decided to go Aventador-wild rather than Huracan-sedate. The aggressive stealth fighter look of the Urus is instantly recognizable as a Lamborghini. The interior that seats four people is also another sight to behold. The center console design is right out of a spaceship. There is not a single valid reason why the Urus does not qualify to be on the same list as all the other cool Lambos.

The Urus Is Lamborghini’s Savior

Lamborghini Urus Driving Off-Road

Some self-proclaimed purists may say that an SUV dilutes the brand. But the sales numbers prove that the Urus was the best decision made in modern Sant’Agata. Lamborghini’s sales have skyrocketed ever since the Urus came along. It has also allowed the supercar brand to expand its horizons to other emerging markets where low-slung supercars were not in demand, but the brand was. The Urus democratized Lamborghini and allowed not just car enthusiasts to enjoy some of their lunacy, but the whole family and more.

If you’re still not convinced that the Lamborghini Urus is one of the coolest cars of all time. Let us put it this way, if it wasn’t for the Urus, there would be no Huracan Performante, STO, Sian, Aventador SVJ, or any other Lamborghini in the future. The Urus has allowed Lamborghini to survive, and that is as good a reason to be cool in our books.
