As we examine the 2010 Dodge Challenger, we think it’s best to make it known that the 2023 edition will be the last that we’ll see of a true American pony car. More and more automakers are supplanting gasoline-powered vehicles with electric vehicles, a bug that seems to have finally caught up with the Challenger.
Meanwhile, records show that the moniker “Challenger” has always meant two things. In 1959 when it first emerged, it was the name for the Coronet Silver Challenger. Eventually, it became the tag for one of Dodge’s most successful lineups.
For this mini-feature, we look at the 2010 edition of the Challenger and close with how much it costs today.
The 2010 Dodge Challenger Performs Nicely For A Muscle Car
The 2010 Challenger was available in three trims which, surprisingly, were designed based on engine specs. There was the SE, the R/T, and the SRT8. The SE was the base trim and the SRT8 was the elite trim level.
Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, the SE trim was capable of making 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. It was only available with a five-speed automatic transmission. The previous edition had a four-speed, so this was an upgrade.
As for the R/T trim, the engine type was a 5.7-liter V8 monster that made 372 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The engine was mated with a five-speed automatic transmission. However, if drivers wanted, they could get a six-speed manual transmission. Using the manual transmission meant getting 376 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, the SRT8 trim possessed a gigantic 6.1-liter V8 engine with a max power output of 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Concerning transmission, you had to choose between the automatic and manual. Just like the R/T trim.
The Interior Isn’t Regal But It’s Not Awful Either
Although the exterior of the 2010 Challenger may appeal to you, you may be shocked by the basic design that characterizes the interior. Some details like the big dashboard and unique shifter knobs remind you of previous Challenger editions. If you’ve got a thing for nostalgia, then you should be happy about that.
The front seat is quite wide and flat, and while they’re suitable for long drives, they fail in the area of lateral support. However, the top trim, the SRT8 comes with better leather seats and bigger space in the rear area.
How Much Will The 2010 Dodge Challenger Cost To Own?
The 2010 Challenger wears the heritage of its 1970 ancestor, especially in the area of exterior colors. A pretty decent muscle car with a good old gasoline engine, it’s an admirable vehicle.
Today, its price starts from $23,245. This may increase depending on condition, trim, and mileage.
