A video from YouTube channel ‘Wheels’ shows a thrilling competition between a Challenger Hellcat Redeye and Audi R8 on the drag strip.
The Hellcat Redeye is an American muscle built by American carmaker Dodge. The Audi R8 is a mid-engine sports car that features the Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The R8 has a 5.2-liter V10 engine.
Are they the perfect match? Does the V10 yield more power than the V8 despite its lower cubic capacity? Does the weight come into play here? Do we know that the Redeye is a heavy car weighing 4,443 lbs while the R8 is a mere 3,428 lbs? This race is going to be an exciting matchup of weight and power.
Hellcat Redeye Vs Audi R8
The R8 takes the lead from the very start of the race. Still, there‘s a brief overtaking attempt by the Hellcat, but it soon becomes clear that the R8 is in a class of its own. In the video we can see only one run, but the R8 has an advantage in the game, and it‘s more than happy to show its best side.
The Hellcat is not giving up, but it seems that it has no chance of overtaking the R8. In this run, the Hellcat‘s time is 11.35 seconds while the Audi shows a better result with 10.95 seconds. The weight played a role here despite the larger engine volume. The difference of a couple of miles per hour was decisive in the race.
So the Hellcat did 124.49 MPH, and the lighter Audi R8 did 129.49 MPH. The Audi R8’s weight comes from its lighter structure, and therefore it has a little more potential on the drag strip vs a Hellcat.
Is This A Fair Battle?
The duel in the video brings on the strip two very different vehicles. One is a supercar while the other is a mid-engine sports car. Not a fair match, one would think. But it’s not only about the power, but rather the engine and weight combined that make the game. The winner was the R8. Well, these two vehicles are outstanding representatives of their class, they have different engines and weights, but there’s nothing that can stop them from racing.
